According to statistics provided by Literacy Mid-South, over 75% of 3rd graders in Shelby County Schools read below grade level. The freedom of summer does not allow for a constant reinforcement of skills resulting in what has become known as the "summer slide". It is even noted in a New York Times article that an average American student loses approximately a month's worth of learning in reading and math each summer.

Learning with Field Trips

Through Field Trips children will share social experiences that will provide opportunities to encounter and explore novel things in an authentic setting.

Educational Play

Through play children will develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments through foreign language and gymnastics.

Reading and Writing Camp

Children will learn reading and writing with strategies centered around a specific goal and genre. Each child will be guided through each step in the process from generating ideas to editing and finally celebrating their writing!
